Who doesn’t love a good d&m? If you just asked yourself what that means, possibly not you! (insert shocked face) Deep and meaningfuls have always been a favourite of mine, whether it be with my friends, my extended family, at a party or just with my man at home, I love a good in-depth chat.
Friday after-work drinks is a great example. It’s a time to relax and unwind and as we shoo away the cobwebs of the week, invariably a d&m discussion ensues.
Last night there were a dozen of us jammed into a cosy nook in the corner of the bar, sipping cocktails and munching salt & pepper squid. It was typically noisy, so I could only hear the person either side of me. Perfect conditions for a d&m.
The girl next to me asked me about my day and then told me about hers. The girl next to her joined us and I leaned in to hear the conversation.
“A funny thing happened when I was driving home the other night,” she said.
Now this girl is a bit of a comedian so I thought a joke was percolating but as she continued her face was unusually serious.
“I like my own company, cos essentially I’m an introvert.”
Personality types? Oh, I’m already hooked!
“I felt God challenge me.” She stopped and looked at us, as if to check it was ok to continue.
“Yes,” I said, not wishing to interrupt but to encourage. I think I was quietly salivating. Does that sound weird?
“Don’t hide your light,” she said. The girl next to me nodded.
“Did that mean something to you?” I asked.
“Not at first but I knew it was a reference to that verse in the Bible, so I asked God. ‘What do you mean, don’t hide your light?’ and he told me.”
Now my backside in on the very edge of oblivion cos clearly, THIS IS REVELATION people!
“My home is my bushel.” The sunshine that broke across her face was proof enough.
“Wow, I’d never considered it from that angle.” I sat back to digest the moment as my work-mate continued to explain what this awakening meant for her. And it suddenly struck me, she didn’t usually come to Friday after-work drinks but here she was, shining her light.
And there it was, the gold had surfaced and it was brilliant. Never underestimate the worth of a good d&m.
